Ellen Jewell

Ellen has been working in the Arts in a number of ways for the last 12 years. She graduated from De Montfort University Lincoln in 2000 with a BA Hons in Graphic Design and Illustration. Ellen worked as an Illustrator and a Craft Person for a number of years but her first love has always been Fine Art which she decided to make her main priority in 2008.

The themes in her work are always personal. The main thread that runs through her work is to make sense of who we are and the challenges life throws at us. Through her work she has explored different stages of her life and she is inspired by the people and places she knows. Collage and found objects play a large part of Ellen’s work; she believes that using reclaimed objects adds character and authenticity to the work. It is proof of our existence and experiences adding insight depth and meaning. Ellen aims that through her work she can give her and others’ experiences a form and a voice that can be appreciated and understood.

Ellen currently provide workshops in the community working closely with Jelly Arts, The Rising Sun Arts Centre, Launchpad and Reading Borough Council. She is also a member of Arjeea 21, Reading’s leading contemporary art group.
